The first overnight campout designed specifically for girls and mentors
who are in circles was held on August 4-5, 2007. Our 2nd Annual Summer
Campout will be held on June 21-23, 2008
Following are answers to common questions, logistical information
and links to the registration forms
that will help you better prepare for the weekend.
The weekend is designed to provide a supportive, experiential and fun opportunity for girls and mentors involved with the Rose Circle, and to join together through the experience of the larger Rose Circle community.
We are asking all campout participants and their families to gather
outside of the Hidden Springs Wellness Center (1651 Siskiyou Blvd) at
9:00 am on Friday, June 21 for a send-off circle. From here, the campout
participants will caravan with the Mentors and facilitators up to
EarthTeach Forest Park. To get more information about EarthTeach you can visit their website at www.earthteach.org.

The cost for the campoutwill be based on a sliding scale of $75 - $150 per
girl and woman. If that is a hardship for any family there will be partial scholarships
available.
Once you have returned the initial registration form that was attached
to the bottom of the flyer
with your payment, you will be sent a registration packet that
includes an
introductory letter,
medical release,
liability waiver,
EarthTeach release, EarthTeach agreement to participate, and a packing list.
All registration forms need to be completed and returned by June 1,2008
to Laura Roll at 95 Scenic Drive, Ashland.

to download the packing list. Because of the higher elevation of
EarthTeach, it can be hot during the day and cool in the evenings.
Make sure your daughter is prepared for hot days, cool nights, rain,
and shine. We have extra sleeping bags, tents, pads, etc. If you don't
have some of these items and are not able to borrow them, contact
Cara at 326-1342.
We have an abundance of ideas and activities planned for the weekend.
We will be doing a variety of things from playing games, doing crafts,
hiking, spending time in small and large circles, and having fun. We will also have a
special Challenge Course Facilitator for some Ropes Course activities.
Everything we do throughout the weekend will be “challenge by choice.”
This means that all the girls are fully empowered and in control over
determining their level of involvement at all times. All the activities
will be fully supported, facilitated, and safe.

There are many hands and hearts that are going into the planning, implementation, and execution of the weekend. Cara Walsh and Kelly Shelstad are the two main coordinators of the event. Cara is a seasoned wilderness instructor who has a lot of experience facilitating and working with youth in the outdoors. Kelly is a Waldorf School teacher who has years of experience in wilderness and environmental education facilitation. In addition, mentors and facilitators of the Rose Circle will be present and available throughout the weekend to assure that there is a strong container of support, leadership, and supervision.

We are asking that the girls come with a sack lunch for Friday afternoon.
The rest of the meals will be provided. Sunday after the campout we
are having a potluck lunch with the larger Rose Circle community.
Please include any specific dietary restrictions on the registration form.
After we conclude our campout on Sunday, we will be having a
celebratory potluck
lunch with the larger Rose Circle community from 1:00 to 3:30.
At this time we are inviting women and girls only. Mothers, sisters,
friends, etc. of the campout participants are invited to join the girls
and mentors to celebrate with the larger community. We are also
inviting the girls and their mothers who are interested in joining a
new circle. Women who have been asking about becoming a Mentor
are also welcome. This will be an opportunity to share food, celebrate
the emergence of the Rose Circle, and play together on the land.
Please bring a dish to share and extend this invitation to anyone
who is interested. Click here for directions to EarthTeach
Forest Park. |
